Personally, I have always had a stigma towards head to toe denim outfits, think Britney and Justin circa 2001 or the time George Clooney wore this. But, even I have been seduced by the new take on denim showcased during Fashion Week last September.
The SS15 catwalk shows saw a jean revival, and this spring THE thing to wear is denim, but not as we (or at least I) have ever worn it before. Now, it is all about the evolved denim outfit. It could be, Tommy Hilfiger’s patchwork co-ords, Stella McCartney’s loose fitting top and skirt sets, or the military jacket, teamed with denim culottes seen on the Gucci runway. There is something for everyone. I’ve even seen some great denim shoes!
So, here are the pieces I’ve got my eye on, which are available to buy now.
1. GUCCI Two-tone denim dress £1,320
I've had my eye on this since the shows last year and can now afford it! As the most expensive piece on my list, it makes sense that it is also the most versatile. I would wear this with heels and a red lip in the evening or with flats for a meeting or a casual lunch with friends.
2. LEMAIRE Chambray shirt £460 and Flared denim midi skirt £390
This gorgeous set by French designer Christophe Lemaire is my favourite. It is simple, elegant and subtle. Midi length skirts can cut your legs in half, making them look short so just add some skyscraper heels if you are worried.
3. MOTO Raw Hem Denim T-Shirt £26.00 and Raw Hem Culottes £38.00
Ahhhh, we can all breathe out now, it is possible to get some great denim without ruining your bank balance! These Topshop co-ords are perfect for the office. Plus the rough, unfinished hems give a high-fashion edge to this high street look.
5. COS STORES Denim-look shirt dress £69
Here is another purse-friendly look. This shirt dress is a blank styling canvas in my opinion. It could be worn open over the top of another layer, or with a belt and chunky accessories.
6. Cheap Monday Cat Denim Heeled Shoes £58.00
These Cheap Monday shoes are perfect for adding a touch of denim to any outfit. For anyone still unable to shake the image of George Clooney from their mind, start with these and work your way up!
