Giorgio Moroder Releases The Soundtrack To Summer 2015

Giorgio Moroder is officially back after teasing his long-awaited return to the music scene for the past 6 months. Deja Vu sees Moroder teaming up with a new batch of music's hottest up-and-comers, lending them his signature disco sound.

Giorgio Moroder has long been known as the Godfather of EDM. His collaboration with Donna Summer (may she rest in peace) on I Feel Love birthed a new genre of music in the seventies, making use of that signature click sound. Moroder and Summer went on to create beautiful dance music together over the next decade, including hits like Macarthur Park, Last Dance and Enough is Enough.

It's rare to find an album that is exceptionally good from start to finish, but Giorgio has done exactly that on this new record. This album opens with a signature Moroder instrumental track, 4 U With Love, which sets the tone for the record. It's modern, but unmistakably Giorgio Moroder.

Highlights on the record include the lead single, Right Here Right Now featuring Kylie Minogue. If there's a God in heaven (or in Oz), these two will collaborate on an entire album. Kylie Minogue has long used disco influences in her music, but they've never sounded as good as they do here.

The most recent single, Deja Vu with Sia is a string-influenced funky disco anthem that takes cues from Moroder's discography but also from the work of Nile Rodgers and Chic.

This album is packed full of stars, including glittering collaborations with Britney Spears, Foxes, Charli XCX, Kelis and Matthew Koma. Perhaps the most surprising is the collaboration with Swedish pop newcomer, Marlene. I Do This For You is an EDM anthem that deserves a proper release as a single in Europe, at the very least.

The only low point on the record (if you can even call it that - it's still a very strong track) is the collaboration on Don't Let Go with Mikky Ekko, which lacks the same energy as the rest of the record. It appears to be slightly out of place in this collection of modern disco classics.

Whether you're a longtime fan of Moroder's work or a newcomer who is just discovering this legendary dance music producer, Deja Vu is a perfect balance between retrospective and forward looking sounds.

Listen for yourself. The album is now available on iTunes.
