Accessories Report: What's Good

Ah, accessories.  Earrings, bracelets, bags and sunnies.  Those added little extras that can take an outfit from Meh to Damn, girl!  I contend that the same dress can go from work to happy hour to brunch at Nana’s depending on how it’s accessorized.  The great Marc Jacobs once said that “Any opportunity to adorn oneself is human, and accessories are an easy way to do it”.  Read on for 5 crazy cool accessories that have recently caught my eye.

1.       Anya Hindmarch Sticker Shop

If you followed any of the coverage of fashion month you’ve probably seen these quirky and playful stickers adorning everything from the handbags to the cell phones of the fashion set.  The stickers are a collaboration with Charlotte Stockdale of Chaos Fashion and are made of luxe embossed leather.  The designs range from letters with which you can spell out whatever message you please (I’m eagerly awaiting a J and K to be delivered…my initials in case you ignored the byline of this article) to googly eyes to a Mickey Mouse gloved hand flashing a peace sign.  These stickers are a fun and easy way to personalize your Celine Phantom bag so you can tell it apart from everyone else’s at parties.

2.       Celine Porcelain Necklaces

And speaking of the always brilliant Phoebe Philo how rad were the porcelain necklaces that adorned the necks of the models in her Spring/Summer 2015 runway show?  Imprinted with a woman’s lips, torso and bust these are like wearing a porcelain mold casting around your neck.  These are different and modern and would make a jeans and tee so much more interesting.  And such a conversation starter; “I like your necklace…are those boobs?” Why, yes.  Yes they are.

3.       Raf Simmons for Adidas

In his 5th collection for Adidas for Fall/Winter 2015, the creative director of Dior takes the classic Stan Smith to a whole other level of cool.  In vibrant hues of green, purple and yellow these are not for the meek or faint of heart.  He also took inspiration from space with his designs for the Ozweego II and Response Trail II styles.  As you might expect, this collection will cost you just a smidge more than a standard pair of Adidas.  The shoes run from $455 to $730 and will be available mid-July.  Plenty of time to open a savings account.

4.       Military Inspired

Clothes and accessories taking their cue from the military are having (another) moment.  The look was all over the Spring/Summer 2015 runways for labels like Jason Wu and Marc Jacobs.  I dig this utilitarian meets chic vibe and am glad it continues to “make a comeback”.  If this fabulous Gucci bag or these Lanvin earrings reminiscent of military stars don’t exactly fit in your budget, try this Michael Kors dog tag pendant necklace or this messenger bag that’s made by no one in particular but is still dope.

5.       Waist Bags

Now you may be cringing with thoughts of Midwestern tourists at Disneyland but the current iterations are nothing like that.  Chic, modern and stylish the waist bag (not fanny pack) says “I’m way too cool to carry a bag over my shoulder or on my arm”.  I love this mini quilted from Rebecca Minkoff or this minimalist version from Elizabeth and James

So go forth and accessorize yourself, friends.  Make your outfits unique and personal.  Adorn yourself; Marc Jacobs said so.
