Lady Gaga wins 1st EVER 'Contemporary Icon' Award at the 2015 Songwriters Hall of Fame

Lady Gaga just received the first ever 'Contemporary Icon' award for the 2015 Songwriters Hall of Fame Gala. She posted a selfie on Instagram before the event with the caption "Being a songwriter is first and foremost how I identify in life. Tonight's award means a lot to me."

She also performed a cover of "What's Up?" by 4 Non Blondes penned by their EPIC lead vocalist/songwriter Linda Perry who has written with the likes of P!nk, Gwen Stefani and more! Remember "What You Waiting For?" by Gwen Stefani!?!?! Linda Perry is the ISHHHH!!! At the event the two songwriters were snapped together on the red carpet, AND Perry covered Mother Monster's "Bad Romance" which had Gaga tearing up from her seat. Gaga also covered "What's Up?" once before on her 2014 artRAVE tour, and slaaaaays the 1992 rock anthem even more every time she sings it.

Songwriters Hall Of Fame President Linda Moran said:

"It could be said that this honour was created with Lady Gaga in mind. She has enjoyed monumental popularity on the charts, on radio, TV and the Internet, not to mention the continuous press coverage she has generated," "She is a consistent hit maker who has surprised everyone by proving to be as adept with the great standards as she is with her own songs."

The award was presented by none other than Gaga's dear friend and recent singing partner Tony Bennett. Gaga proclaimed that this was her 'favourite' award she's ever received...which says a lot when you've won Grammys, VMAs, Brits, etc. She also revealed that when she was about 15 she would submit her songs on songwriting forums and she would talk to other writers and they'd get to know each other a bit and critique each other's work.

She totally deserves this award and recognition in my opinion... Not many artists only 4 albums into their (commercially successful) careers can take the same kind of credit for songwriting as Lady Gaga. She's been VERY modest about her involvement in her albums, but her longtime friend/producer/co-writer RedOne revealed that she's FAR too kind about songwriting credits and that SHE is really the mastermind behind everything in her songs and has written EVERY track on her albums (except her Tony Bennett collaboration album). She was also signed to Interscope Records as a songwriter before an actual artist and has written songs for Britney Spears, Adam Lambert, The Pussycat Dolls, New Kids On The Block, TLC, Michael Bolton, and Cher...WOW. I loved her Cheek to Cheek album with Tony Bennett but felt that something was missing (for me) and it was HER songwriting (because that album is ALL covers of jazz standards from the Great American Songbook). Anyway... I can't WAIT for her new STARRING acting role in Season 5 of American Horror Story : Hotel and her next album due around 2016.
